Setting the Stage

The gardens are blooming and the birds are singing it’s springtime in Charlottesville and love is in the air. Every wedding planning guide will tell you that one of your first priorities when planning your wedding is to choose a venue. This gives you not only your location, but also a wedding date to begin planning with.

I think a blushing bride is never more at home than in one of Charlottesville’s many gorgeous gardens. The historic gems found tucked around the University of Virginia’s Lawn provide ideal settings  ranging from small gardens suited for intimate nuptials to wider green spaces like the ever popular space behind the Colonnade Club.

Not planning a garden wedding but still want the garden experience? Consider hosting a “Welcome to Charlottesville” cocktail party for guests in one of the Lawn gardens. You can even hire a couple of UVA student guides to give your guests an in-depth look at the history of The University’s gardens and Grounds.

One of Charlottesville’s most popular churches is far and away the UVA chapel, which operates on a lottery system. This concept can be a bit intimidating to many couples, but be encouraged that most get the dates they were hoping for. You may have to adjust your time for the ceremony a bit, though.

Tip: Have a gap between your ceremony and reception start time? Offer guests guided tours of the Lawn or even a wine tasting at one of our area’s many vineyards before it’s time to join the reception!
